In the mornings we have six classes:
Reception Class: Rockpools
Year 1 and 2: Lighthouse
Year 3: Meadow
Year 4: River
Year 5: Waterfall
Year 6: Mountain
In the afternoons, our Reception and Y1/2 children stay in the same classes.
In Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6) we have a subject-led approach with children joining one of three three afternoon groups:
Year 3/4: Hedgehogs
Year 4/5: Otters
Year 5:6: Robins
Mixed-age classes can support strong academic progress, allow teaching to be adapted to individual needs, provide positive role models, and build confidence, independence, and community.
Teachers teaching their specialisms means stronger subject expertise, passion, more depth, challenge and subject specific thinking. As teachers are leading on subjects across classes, their will be greater consistency.
Children in the afternoon groups are not all learning the same topic at the same time, but are taught their year group curriculum over time.
