FOBS (Friends of Bathford School)

Supporting our school, building a community

About FOBS:

FOBS (Friends of Bathford School) exists for you – the parents, guardians and teachers of all the children who attend Bathford Church School. Our main aim is to raise funds to purchase items that would otherwise fall outside the school’s budget such as the school playground, new interactive white boards, tablets for the classrooms and contributing towards residential trips. We also provide an informal social network for parents. The main aim of FOBS is to raise funds in an inclusive, enjoyable manner, through organising an annual programme of events that are exciting and fun for both children and adults!

We have chosen to be a “Friends” organisation rather than purely a Parents/Teachers Association in order to be more inclusive for the local community in our lovely village of Bathford. We have some very supportive local residents, businesses and organisations, and this helps us benefit from their input and strengthens our place at the heart of the Bathford community. Every parent, guardian, teacher or carer of a child at Bathford School is automatically a member of FOBS.

In June 2023, FOBS was designated as a UK Registered Charity (No.1203413) which was a major milestone in our history and signifies our commitment to the school.

How does it work?

FOBS is currently run by a core of volunteers who regularly attend FOBS meetings and help to organise events such as the School Discos, Cake Sales, Fetes and other events. We have officers, and a committee, however everyone is free to contribute as little or as much as they like as infrequently or as often as they like. The more support we have for meetings and events, the less any one individual has to do on their own!

FOBS Meetings

Committee Meetings are held every month on a weekday evening. Everyone is invited to come along to any of the meetings whether it’s simply to listen to what’s going on, express an opinion, make a suggestion, volunteer to help or become a member of the committee. We also have working groups consisting of volunteers who co-ordinate the fundraising activities.

Volunteering

If you feel you would like to get involved either by helping at an event, giving us a great idea or you have a skill that you think we could use such as, accountancy skills, experience in applying for grants, social media capabilities, to name but a few then please get in touch. We are always looking for new volunteers and appreciate all the help that we get. As with any of these things – many hands make light work!
